Complex care supports individuals with long-term or advanced health needs, often following illness, disability or hospital treatment. While this level of care is traditionally associated with hospitals or care homes, many families now choose specialist complex care delivered safely in the comfort of their own homes by highly trained care professionals.
The NHS serves as the primary provider of complex care. While a significant portion of this care is delivered in hospitals, it is also offered through various other means:
In the individual’s home: The NHS may directly provide care or fund a third-party partner or organization to deliver services based on an assessed need.
In a nursing home: Care is provided in either a nursing home funded by the local authority or a privately operated facility.
In a third-party facility: Care is arranged and funded by the NHS at facilities managed by external partners.
Healthcare in the UK is provided free at the point of delivery. If you have a recognised healthcare need and are receiving care in your own home, you may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding, which is managed and financed by your local Integrated Care Board (ICB).
To explore your eligibility, you should consult your GP, who can carry out an initial assessment and refer your case to the ICB. Following this, a full assessment will be conducted by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to evaluate the complexity of your needs.
Unfortunately, some specialist conditions, such as dementia, are not automatically classified as healthcare needs on their own, meaning dementia care is not always covered by NHS Continuing Healthcare. However, it is still worthwhile to check, as securing this funding can significantly reduce or even fully cover care costs.
If funding is approved, keep in mind that the ICB reviews it annually. Should your needs decrease due to receiving high-quality care, there is a risk that funding may be withdrawn, requiring you to cover the full cost of your care.
Our home care services allow individuals to transition from hospital or institutional settings to receive personalised, person-centered care designed to meet their unique needs. This flexible, high-quality support empowers individuals to stay at home while maintaining independence and leading a fulfilling life.
We recognise that managing complex health conditions requires specialised care and support. Our experienced nurses and carers are highly trained, and if additional training is required to meet specific needs, we ensure they are fully equipped. Before joining the care team, clients have the opportunity to meet and approve the nurses and carers, ensuring they possess the right skills and are a good fit for the team.

Homecare First Care collaborates with Case Managers, Insurance Companies, and families managing Personal Health Budgets to recruit, train, and provide Nurses and Carers to deliver home-based care for children, young people, and adults.
As specialists in recruitment and training within the care sector, we prioritise matching the clinical expertise and personal attributes of our care team to meet each individual client’s unique needs.
We recognise that some conditions require specialised and more complex care. For individuals with complex health needs, our skilled nurses and carers are fully trained. If additional training is required to address specific needs, we ensure our staff receive all necessary supplementary training.
For clients with Personal Health Budgets, we also offer specialised training for your own staff. Courses such as First Aid, Medication Administration, Basic Life Support (BLS), Manual Handling, Tracheostomy Care, Ventilation Support, Epilepsy Management, Cerebral Palsy Care, and PEG, NG, and JG feeding are available.
Homecare First offers compassionate and comprehensive support for individuals with learning disabilities. Our service focuses on enhancing quality of life and fostering independence, rather than just managing day-to-day care tasks. We aim to help individuals feel secure, engaged, build skills, and participate fully in their local communities.
End of Life Care, also referred to as palliative care, focuses on managing pain and other physical symptoms associated with terminal or complex illnesses.
For individuals facing complex or terminal conditions, managing symptoms is often a crucial part of care. We are typically involved early on to assist with medication, provide practical support, and sometimes help with mobility and activities, ensuring individuals can live well at home for as long as possible. We recognise that this is a deeply emotional time for all involved, which is why we make a special effort to understand the needs of both the individual and their loved ones.
Our team of nurses and enhanced care support workers provides both comfort and clinical care, tailoring each care plan to meet the unique needs of the individual. We collaborate closely with families and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuous, compassionate support during this challenging period.
